Gippsland Lakes Revisited

6/3/2025

Reporter:  Adrian Schirrman
In early February, Janet and I spent a week cruising the Gippsland Lakes.  It was something of a trip ‘down memory lane’ as we had spent many happy times on the Lakes in times gone by.  It started with Janet’s dad when we were in our late teens and early twenties - he was very keen with Bulls Boats (regrettably no longer in existence).  And continued later on when we lived in Sale through the 1970s.

Our cruise started in Metung where we boarded our chartered motor cruiser from Riviera Nautic.  For the next week, we revisited many familiar places - down to Duck Arm, across to McMillan Strait and Paynesville, then up the Tambo River to Johnsonville, back across Lake King to the Steamer Landing in the Bunga Arm just behind the Ninety Mile Beach, then up the Nicholson River to Nicholson, and finally another trip up the Tambo River to Swan Reach.

The scenery around the Lakes and the rivers is as good as ever, there is lots of bird life, and the sunrise one morning on the Ninety Mile beach was spectacular.

I have attached a few photos.

While the footy world goes into "Mad Monday" and trading players to the point of total confusion, our tipsters have been focused on everything other than footy as they get about enjoying life in the best way they know how.   Here is a brief synopsis of some of those pursuits.
In October we were treated to another stunning aurora.  Glenn captured it from the cockpit of his A380 on the way back from London.

Meanwhile Bruce & Jill were moving into their new Camberwell digs that gave them a view of their own bit of sky.

Av was enjoying the slippery creatures at Canberra Zoo after they spent time at Mitchelltown, Nagambie, with Amanda and Doug ...

... while Marg was scaring the lot of us at Halloween.

Perhaps the scariest was the Cup Day glamour shot in November or Marg joining the girls for Oaks Day.

While this is happening Steph & Glenn are spending their time in Italy after a staff flight on Emirates.  Truely feel like Steph's year in Pakistan was spent mostly somewhere else in the world !

Mel was staying at home concentrating on training her horse to be the All Breeds Champion this year at the event in Elmore.

Mel's new place at Violet Town got the royal treatment later in the month when Glenn and Jindi took on one of the first mows of the season.

December brought lots of frivolity at the village ...

The year started with a bang for the Fosters as they enjoying the night staying at Taronga Zoo with a bit of noise at midnight.

The heat of January was good for Mel's pool while Marg and Dave spent a relaxing afternoon at the cool Tahbilk restaurant.

We are looking forward to many more experiences in 2025 and hope you can share a little of your adventures with a small article and photos throughout the year.
