What could possess someone in their late 50's to take on this sort of fun! Read on to find out. Well I have now done 5 track days on the Suzuki and the learning curve has been HUGE. I am now moving up to more advanced riding groups and with this comes more “ Oh Shit” moments. With your helmet on you’re pretty well in a cocoon in your own little world, listening to the sounds of your bike and the general hubbub from the track. Race bikes have practically no muffler in the exhaust so they can sound like a 747 jet when at 13,000 revs. They have no mirrors, no lights, no stop light, no horn and practically no seat.
So………… track day at Broadford the other day ....... you know, 215 down the back straight tucked in behind the screen, right angle corner coming up, sit up, set up body position on bike, brake to 110, change gear, hang off bike and knee down, grip tank with elbows, lean, scrape knee, and OH SHIT some lunatic passes you on the inside ..............it seems like his rear wheel is level with your head as you look down and his exhaust pipe is pointed straight at your face, 2 metres away and screaming like a jet! Then his mate circles round the outside and you have 2 jet engines blaring in your ears............ hang on, watch the corner and try and stick with them through the esses. Wouldn’t miss it for quids.
