Welcome Ruby, first daughter of Sarah and David Sharpe and first grandchild for Julie and Bruce Longden.

I am hoping to get a photo of the proud grandparents but in the meantime here is one of mum Sarah and auntie Kate who, as a 3rd year midwife, assisted in the delivery.

A lovely family event at the end of April.

Anzac Day at Sorrento

Anzac Day overlooking Mt Martha from Bruce & Jill's deck at Sorrento.   The weekend was the ideal relaxed long weekend starting on Thursday.

Golf at Portsea was fun although Bruce, Al and Dave are not talking scores.  Meanwhile the girls were at home cooking up a storm.  Brent and Jane joined for the pre-Anzac day supper.

On Anzac Day Brent, Jane and Dave helped Bruce with his "Paris" jigsaw puzzle while the other girls headed for the shops.  Evening nibbles at the Foster's, early movie (The Great Budpest Hotel) and late dinner at the Yatch Club rounded out a great relaxing day.

Easter at Sandy Point

The weather may not have been perfect but the thought of wandering the bustling roads of Sandy Point and exploring the beaches was too hard to resist.

We spent a great weekend of wine, food, games and even went walking with Fi and Norm at Al & Kev's house at Sandy Point.

I am sure that most of the world problems were resolved around the fire and the bottles of red wine.

Canberra economy lifted

The last weekend in March has been productively utilised by Marg & Alison to boost the economy of Canberra.  The real find, apart from the traditional favourites and specials one finds at Blue Illusion and other dress/jewelry shops in Civic, was the relatively new artistic precinct of New Acton.

A great place for brunch with Steph and subsequent wandering of the galleries.  Much to the glee of one of the local artistes Marg feel in love with a particularly unique piece that I understand will adorn our living room.

The photos attached have focused on the artistic nature of the region that you must visit to fully appreciate the rapidly developing region in the southwest corner of the greater Civic area.

Ocean swimming

29/3/2014

Bruce Longden and his Malvern/Harold Holt ocean swimming buddies had their ‘end of swim’ season day out at the end of March.

T
his started with a swim at the Harold Holt pool, breakfast at Mr Fox in Malvern, then a leisurely drive down to Sorrento, coffee and morning tea at Stringer’s café on the corner.  From there a leisurely swim from Portsea pier to old Franklin Point and return. All this followed by lunch at the Portsea pub, much food and drinks consumed.
Usually venue has been at Lorne each year but the other side of the bay members held sway this year.

Bruce has been making full use of his current assignment being based in Sydney with a swim in the Cronulla Shark Island Swim event on the previous weekend.

Please welcome the latest addition to Adrian and Janet's family. Daughter Claire has given birth to the second grandchild - Theo Adrian!  He was 6 lb 11 oz and has a great head of hair - ie. lots more than Adrian!  Claire and Theo are both doing well and we are all very excited to have a lad in the family.

Claire's growing family and sister Joanna all greeted Theo in Perth in early March.

Batemans Bay is the next triathalon location for Steph.  After a PB at the Shoalhaven event a few weeks ago I understand that the preparation was a little less intense.  Nevertheless a great result with 2nd in category in the swim.  Just need to get the bike and running up a notch.

Great job Steph.

Footy tipping stressĀ

16/3/2014

Week one of the new season and the stress must be getting to me already.  Thank you for all the wishes of speedy recovery as I spent the first week of the season sidelined with an injury.

Unfortunately after a relaxing long weekend the thought of work and facing up to another season of footy tipping must have been too much
.  On the way to work on Tuesday there were a few heart palpitations, a light headiness that almost amount to collapse and an alarming shortness of breath.

The result - a bit of running around, brief stay in the emergency room at RMH and then a few days on Melbourne Private.
The top part of the heart had gone into its own rhythm of 300bpm and the bottom part was struggling to know what to do.

All is well that ends well they say
.  I needed a reboot.  Like any good piece of computing equipment....when all else fails simply turn off and reboot.   Worked for me.

Seriously though, a little scary and time to take stock.  But do not fear...this means a refocus on the things I love...like footy tipping.

Husky Tri - Jervis bay

10/3/2014

Keeping up the contribution to sand in the bathers, saddle sore and blisters on the feet, Steph has competed in another triathalon in southern NSW waters in Shoalhaven Bay near Jervis Bay.
The 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run is about 31km too far for most of us.  But Steph managed to put in a PB (personal best for us couchies) with a sensational swim, faultless ride and a grueling run.  This brought her home in 1hr 28.22min and ranked 31 in her category of 110 competitors.

So now off to Bateman's bay for the next challenge on 15/16 March.

Good luck Steph.
